COMPANY OVERVIEW

Founded: 2004

Headquarters: Rohnert Park, CA

Company Size: 51-200 employees

Funding Stage: ———

Through their products, carbon giving program, and partnerships World Centric is using business to create a better world. World Centric began with a mission to reduce economic injustice and environmental degradation through education and community networks. Founded in 2004 by Aseem Das as a non-profit, he funded the organization through a small, online store promoting Fair Trade products. Realizing the contribution compostables items have to reducing waste, they were added to the store’s offerings. As demand grew for an earth-friendly alternative to traditional disposables, World Centric began to innovate and introduce their own products made from renewable resources and agricultural byproducts. World Centric unintentionally became a leading supplier in the green packaging industry. Recognizing the power of commerce to impact the planet, World Centric converted to a for-profit social enterprise in 2009. In 2010, they certified as a B Corp, then became a California Benefit Corporation - using their products and profits as a way to make a difference in the world.

Reviews

Director of Nutritional Services in Health Care | 1,001-5,000 employees

“We use World Centric products in patient care, retail, catering and while providing meals to children of employees of the hospital. Their compostable products met our functional needs and did so more economically than other vendors.”

Director of Purchasing and Marketing in Food and Beverage Services | 1,001-5,000 employees

“World Centric’s cutlery was hands down a lot better than the other products we used to source which were too pliable and would often break. World Centric’s utensils and their fiber products had a good presentation value too.”

Manager of Waste Reduction & Engagement in Higher Education | 10,001+ employees

“Our students are really into composting. They are asking for more bins and they would like to see them in lounges and hallways.”
